A fast-moving brush fire, referred to locally as the Cactus Fire, has prompted emergency officials to issue shelter-in-place orders in parts of Castaic as crews work to contain the flames and prevent further spread.
The fire reportedly broke out in dry vegetation areas, where recent warm temperatures and low humidity have created high-risk wildfire conditions. Authorities moved quickly to respond as smoke and flames spread through nearby brush land, raising concerns for surrounding residential communities.
Local officials have instructed residents in affected zones to remain indoors, keep doors and windows closed, and avoid unnecessary travel. The shelter-in-place order was issued as a precaution due to shifting wind patterns and the potential for rapidly changing fire behavior.
Emergency alerts also advised residents to keep emergency kits ready and be prepared for possible evacuation notices if conditions worsen.
